When traveling by air long distance many people have had a nightmare trip rather than an enjoyable flight. Tip 1: Picking the right seat. This is probably one of the most important decisions you can make, especially on flights over 12hrs long. You will get sleepy at some point, so seating is going to make or break you when it comes time to doze. A window seat will allow you something to rest your head against, while a middle seat means you would have to sleep upright.
Tip 2: Pack a travel kit. This can be as important as the first tip when it comes time to get some shuteye. You can purchase a blow up U shape pillow to support your neck, this is cheap and very light, also you should take a light blanket as everyone knows you just can't sleep if it gets chilly. A pair of eye pads, and ear plugs makes the sleep that much more enjoyable as you can block out engine noise and crying babies or fellow snorers.
Tip 3: Wear appropriate clothing. Don't wear tight fitting garments of any kind, many flyers will tell you how legs can swell during a long haul flight, and wearing tight fitting jeans will just make you that much more uncomfortable. Try to wear light, loose fitting garments which allow plenty of movement, which will keep you cooler when hot and trap warm air when it's cold.
Tip 4: Don't forget the snacks. Not all airlines will serve what some of us would call edible food, even those that do will only serve 3 meals, and most of us will get hungry between meals. Great snacks to take would be nuts like trail mix, or protein bars which will keep hunger at bay and give you a little boost of energy. If, taking sandwiches don't use a filling that will make your bread soggy, or it will feel like your competing with the airline food.
Tip 5: Take some decent entertainment. Even if your not a fan of gadgets, a simple mp3 player with headphones and some decent music can go a long way to make the time fly by. A tablet, or laptop with some of your favorite movies can also help the time pass quickly and enjoyably. Alternatively, a really good book can hold the imagination to the extent you don't even notice the hours pass.
