Tip 6: Keep it healthy. On very long flights of up to 20hrs or more there is a very real risk of health issues like deep vein thrombosis or blood clots. To avoid these health issues get up at least once every couple of hours to stretch your legs, and arms or make a trip to the bathroom to freshen up. You can also take 85mg baby aspirin to avoid these rare but serious health conditions.

Tip 7: Avoid bad liquids. Although it seems like a good idea to have an alcoholic drink in flight, these types of drinks will make you dehydrate very quickly making it more difficult to sleep. Try and stick to fresh fruit juice or water. Fizzy drinks can make you feel bloated and even caffeine can make you dehydrate quicker.

Tip 8: Adjust to the time zone your heading to. This is an easy thing to overlook, but by doing this you can avoid getting the dreaded jet lag. By adjusting your watch to the time zone you are traveling to two to three days before, you can get on a sleep pattern to fit that time zone. This in turn means that by the time you land your body will be used to that time zone and you probably won't suffer from jet lag.

Tip 9: Do not carry on too much luggage. You are allowed to have a decent amount of carry on luggage, but try not to overdo this. Too much luggage under the seat, or between your legs is less room for you to move or sleep, and can lead to an uncomfortable flight. Try to stick strictly to what you absolutely need while on board the flight.

Tip 10: Keep essentials close by. Wearing a money pouch under your shirt is a good way to keep valuables out of sight. Furthermore, most of these pouches are large enough to carry medications to save you hunting through your luggage when you need them quickly. Pouches are also less likely to be stolen from you than a wallet in the back pocket, especially while your sleeping.

Thousands of flyers have had very bad experiences flying, and uncomfortable sleepless flights taking days to get back to normal after reaching their destinations. Using this top ten list will help you to have a more enjoyable flight. Once you've mastered the art of flying long distance it will be something you look forward to, not dread.
